What is a Charter School?

New Jersey Charter Schools are free public schools that are open to all children and typically offer their students more individualized attention, longer school days, longer school years, and innovative programs with substantially less funding than other public schools. Charter schools operate independently from (local) district schools. They may be organized by a group of founders who enter into an agreement, a performance contract called a “charter”, with the state board of education. These uniquely accountable public schools are created and sustained by the communities they serve. With the advent of charter schools, parents now have a choice in public education.
Why Choose Red Bank Charter School?

The Red Bank Charter School is a K-8 public school serving 162 Red Bank children. A lottery is held each year in January for openings in Kindergarten and for the waiting lists in grades 1-8. Interested Red Bank families need to complete an application to qualify for an opening. No other criteria are required for admission.

At RBCS, we hold high expectations for each student’s academic performance. Classes are small with 18 diverse students in each grade. There is one class of each grade level and each is taught by a teacher and adjunct teaching team. Our innovative, progressive instructional model ensures that every student receives high individual support.
