Gifted & Talented

Definition of Giftedness:

Gifted and talented students are students who possess or demonstrate high levels of ability in one or more content areas when compared to their chronological peers in the school and who require modification of their educational program if they are to achieve in accordance with their capabilities.

 

Gifted and Talented Program Goals:

  1. Provide a variety of appropriate types and levels of acceleration, curriculum compacting, and enrichment in grades K-8 that are based on student needs.
  2. Provide students with learning experiences at an appropriate level of challenge based on multiple measures used in the identification process.
  3. Design, develop and implement high-quality curricula that are supported by research-based models appropriate for gifted students and are aligned with, and extend, the general classroom curricula.

 

Program Description: 

Enrichment education for all students is a long-standing part of the Red Bank Charter School’s curricular program. Through offerings including STEM courses, visits to local artistic venues and performances, and differentiated opportunities in the classrooms, students have had exposure to a rich variety of academic enrichment.

Students in grades K-8, identified as “gifted and talented” will receive additional opportunities as an extension of our current programs as well as the New Jersey Student Learning Standards. This is an opportunity for students to expand their intellectual and creative capacities at an appropriate level commensurate with students’ educational and social development and their specific abilities, talents, and interests. Red Bank Charter School is committed to identifying students who exhibit characteristics of general intellectual ability and to meet their special learning needs. Our responsibility to provide an excellent education for these children requires developing their special abilities and talents as well as addressing their social and emotional needs. In addition, the program is committed to providing stimulating educational opportunities which encourage each child to strive for excellence and fulfill her/his potential. Red Bank Charter School’s Gifted and Talented Services are centered on a three-tiered approach to afford flexibility to meet the varying needs, abilities, and interests of all of our students.
