What is the Red Bank Charter School Foundation?
Red Bank Charter School Foundation (Foundation) is a nonprofit 501 (c) (3) corporation. Our mission is to support the REd Bank Charter School (RBCS) in meeting its goals to provide quality education to meet the students of RBCS and the needs of the community at large.
Why invest in the Red Bank Charter School?
Red Bank Charter School has been the catalyst for changeg and the incubator for educational innovation in Red Bank public schools for more than 20 years. Educational concepts which seemed radical when Red Bank Charter School introduced them in 1999 have become the norm across all Red Bank public schools.
So now, the board of directors and leadership of the Red Bank Charter School are focused on driving the next round of educational innovations. This was the purpose behind purchasing the new building and setting up the STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) Lab -- the first-ever elementary school STEM lab in Red Bank -- and why we're now committed to building a new physical education and wellness center.
Increasingly, studies have shown the mind/body connection in learning, productivity and overall wellness. Companies offer gym memberships or flexible scheduling to support physical health, recognizing the positive impact it has in worker satisfaction and overall health, including fewer sick days. Schools also know this is true and Red Bank Charter School made physical education and the educattion of the whole student -- mind and body -- part of its original mission. And we've seen the impact it has had on student performance and our efforts in these areas have been modeled in other Red Bank public schools with similar success. And we've only just scratched the surface.
Lacking a dedicated facility for physical education has created an unnecessary barrier to the innovations we've achieved in mind/body wellness. Moreover, limited indoor recreation facilities in the town of Red Bank have made it difficult for other organizations to offer and/or expand health and wellness programs -- things like yoga, rec basketball, ballroom dancing for seniors, etc --that benefit the entire community, not just school children. As with everything the Red Bank Charter School has done in the last 20-plus years, the benefit of a new physical education facility will extend beyond the school community -- leading both the schools and the town in a commitment to the future health and well-being of our friends and neighbors.
If Red Bank is serious about becoming the arts, culture, and business hub of Monmouth County, we must not forget the health and wellness -- both physical and emotional -- of our community, regardless of age. We view this gym as a central component of that commitment.
