RED BANK--The 9th Annual Red Kettle Classic basketball tournament will take place on Saturday, Dec. 7, at the Salvation Army Community Center on Newman Springs Road. United Teletech Financial, which has sponsored this event since its inception, is again the sponsor this year, according to tournament founder David Prown.
Boys and girls teams from the following schools will take part in the large-school competition: Shrewsbury Boro, Forrestdale in Rumson, Knollwood in Fair Haven and Holy Cross in Rumson. Red Bank Charter and Seashore from Long Branch will play for the small-school titles.
The first game, the Forestdale girls vs. the Holy Cross girls, will begin at 8:15 a.m. That will be followed by the boysʼ teams from the same two schools starting at 9:30. The Knollwood girls team will take on the girlsʼs team from Shrewsbury at 10:45, and the boysʼ teams from the same schools will play at noon. The girls final will tip off at 1:15 p.m., followed by the boys final at 2:30.
The small-school girls game will begin at 4:30, and the boys contest at 6. “The Red Kettle Classic is truly a super event,” Holy Cross Athletic Director Michael Feerst said. “The tournament is friendly, well-organized and competitive, which brings local schools and community together for a great experience.”
Cash admission will be $5 for adults and $1 for children, though children will be admitted free if they bring a donation of canned or dried food.
